LANDLINE TECH IS BEING SWITCHED OFF IN 2025 – WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

The technology that powers landline telephones in the UK will be switched off in 2025. Landline operators in the UK will switch every home phone in the UK to an internet-based connection instead of a traditional copper-wire landline.

Once your old phone technology is completely switched off, people will not be able to make a phone call from a landline without an internet connection. For those in the UK without internet connections, the UK’s broadcast regulator Ofcom has said that people should be offered a simple internet connection for making calls only, rather than having to pay for high-speed services.

Will this impact me?

When we say ‘everyone’, yes, we mean everyone! Business and home. And it’s not just your phone services you need to think about. It’s everything else that currently uses the old phone network, all your non-voice services connected to PSTN or ISDN lines. Things like alarms, EPOS machines, door entry systems, CCTV, and faxes.

The switch that is happening is to update the old wiring, with modernised technology. As we know, everyone uses technology these days, and we know how reliable it is! As long as you have an internet connection, nothing will change with us.
